GREEN GROUNDS
Fertilizer Usage and its Alternatives at the University of Michigan

MISSION
WHY ARE FERTILIZERS AN ISSUE?

Fertilizer utilized for agriculture and landscaping is a major pollutant of natural ecosystems (Dopico 2012). The University of Michigan heavily relies on fertilizer to maintain its grounds (for more details, see Grounds tab).

The University of Michigan is dedicated to promoting a sustainable lifestyle. Therefore, the University has a responsibility to protect the environment and its inhabitants from the negative impacts of fertilizer such as groundwater contamination, marine ecosystem degradation and bioaccumulation of pollutants.
Through utilizing social sciences, we hope to help eliminate the
use of polluting fertilizers on the University of Michigan campus.
